School Lunch Program

School Lunch Program

Resumes Sept. 6, 2017

Our goal is to strive for a community based answer to childrens' hunger at school.  We believe providing children with healthy lunches will contribute to their general well being, learning and positive behaviours.

Background:  We launched a pilot project in early March 2017 providing 23 lunches to two schools, Percy Pegler and Big Rock.  We increased the number of lunches to 28 by the end of the year.

Plans for 2017-2018 school year:  At the close of the 2016-2017 school year we met with the Foothills School Division board and school officials and agreed to provide lunches to forty students in four schools for the 2017-2018 school year.

Participation:  We have had incredible support from the congregation with 23 people helping at various times.

Funding partners:  Funding to assist us has generously been provided by Okotoks Lions Club, Okotoks Elks Club, the Food Bank and individuals from within our congregation.  We have approached about 20 businesses in Okotoks to ask for their financial support.  *There is a NEW account at the Okotoks Bottle Depot for those who would like to donate their recycling proceeds to this program.

We look forward to resuming this important program on September 6, 2017.  We hope and encourage the return of our enthusiastic volunteers and would welcome others joining us. Volunteers make lunches on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:00am in the OUC kitchen.  If you would like to help, please sign up on the dates you are available on the calendar located on the OUC bulletin board in the Foyer.
