Our mission: With God's help we are: Following Jesus, Reaching Others and Changing Lives.

Baptism: Baptism is a sacrament of the church and among other things includes a commitment to being part of the community of faith. In order for an infant or child baptism to be performed at Okotoks United Church, at least one parent must be a member of the United Church of Canada and the family must have been attending the church for at least six months prior to the baptism. The sacrament of baptism takes place in public at a Sunday morning Worship service.

Adult baptisms signify to the community that the person is committed to being a disciple of Christ and to being an active member of the church. Adults become members of the church through a profession of faith at a Sunday morning Worship service.

For infant, child and adult baptisms a class and/or meeting with the minister is required for the purpose of determining the meaning of baptism and to confirm the commitment of the family or individual.

Confirmation: Confirmation classes are offered to young people between the ages of 13-17. These classes take place over a number of weeks and cover basics of the Christian faith. At the end of these classes, the young person may decide to be confirmed in a Sunday morning Worship Service as an affirmation of their baptism. If the young person was never baptised, baptism will take place at this time. For more information on confirmation and the classes offered, please contact the minister.

Membership: At Okotoks United Church we recieve New Members on Easter and the first Sunday of Advent. Prior to this a class is offered to those who wish to become members. This day long class offers an overview of the United Church of Canada and what is expected of a member. Those wishing to become members who have never been baptized will be baptized as a part of joining the church.

Weddings: We celebrate the commitment of two people in marriage at Okotoks United Church. Weddings at the church, while not always performed by the minister, must contain a faith element to the ceremony and be performed by clergy of a religious tradition. We celebrate all expressions of marital relationships including same-sex unions. Inquiries into having your wedding in the beautiful sanctuary of Okotoks United Church can be made through the main office.

Funerals: Funerals or Memorials are a part of our service to the community. The loss of a loved one is difficult and we strive to offer a space where lives are treasured and celebrated. Because we are a church of Jesus Christ, we ask that services in our building respect that we are a Christian Community and that the service contain an expression of faith.
